David Friedman made a pithy point on his blog a while ago to the effect that if we want smaller government and lower taxes have election day be same day as income tax filing day. Excellent idea - should be a constitutional amendment. Right now these dates are about as far from each other as possible.
Great idea! Actually, since so many of us are scrambling to meet the deadline on tax day, it would be even better if the election happens the day after.
"E pur si muove!": "Any yet it does move!" It was said to have been muttered by Galileo Galilei after the Roman Inquisition forced him to deny that the Earth moves around the Sun.
In 2016 I retired from teaching philosophy at the University of Wisconsin after working for 40 years at 7 different colleges and universities. At present, I live at Lake Davis in Plumas County CA and am working on a book on the philosophy of Henry David Thoreau.
